Current Position
Baey Yam Keng was appointed Managing Director in January 2011. He joined Hill & Knowlton in 2009 and was promoted to Deputy Managing Director in July 2010. He is responsible for leading, managing and developing Hill & Knowlton's operations and people in Singapore.
He provides strategic counsel to public and private sector clients in the development and execution of public positioning and stakeholder engagement programmes. Tapping on his experience in the government, corporate and grassroots sectors, he offers holistic perspectives and insights to strategies, marketing communications and community engagement.
Prior History
He began his career in the public service in 1995 with the Singapore Economic Development Board where he took various portfolios in industry development and corporate planning. One of his key achievements was the set-up of the Script to Screen fund to promote television production activities in Singapore. The fund led to the EDB's subsequent multi-million dollar content development funds with Discovery and National Geographic Channel. His last appointment was Director (London) when he was in charge of the media & digital entertainment sector and the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg) region.
Yam Keng joined the Ministry of Information, Communications & the Arts in 2003 as Director (Creative Industries Singapore) to spearhead the Creative Industries Development Strategy. During this period, he launched initiatives such as Creative Community Singapore, Creative Youth Xchange and Beyond - the Global Summit for Creative Industries. He also spoke at various conferences for UNESCO and local governments in the UK, China, India, Korea and Southeast Asia on the development of creative industries.
He was concurrently Second Director, Planning at the National Arts Council, with responsibilities in incentive management and international relations.
Yam Keng joined CapitaLand Limited in 2006 as Vice President (Corporate Marketing) in charge of strengthening and promoting Southeast Asia's largest listed real estate group's brand to partners, investors, customers and talents. He was also Vice President (Corporate Social Responsibility) spearheading the group's commitment as a socially responsible corporate citizen, both to contribute back to the societies that it operates in and to promote a sustainable environment for future generations. In that role, he was also General Manager of the CapitaLand Hope Foundation which focuses on supporting underprivileged children.
Other Information
Yam Keng is currently a Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC. His public appointments include Director of the Chinese Development Assistance Council, REACH Supervisory Panel member (Chairman, Branding & New Media Taskforce), President of the Volleyball Association of Singapore and Exco Member of the Central Singapore Community Development Council. He is a board director of STET Homeland Security Services (part of ST Electronics) and Asian Civilisations Museum.
He is also the Founding President of The ETCeteras, a theatre company in Singapore. His production experience over 20 years centred on strategic partnerships, marketing and publicity.
Yam Keng holds a Master's degree with distinction in Biochemical Engineering from University College London and a First Class Honours degree in Biotechnology from Imperial College London.
